Downtime caused by power outages often results in a significant loss in sales for all retailers. During disasters the public relies heavily on retailers for backup supplies, and it’s essential they’re not turned away in a time of need.
For food and grocery retailers in particular, the consequences can be much more severe and even become health concerns. Without proper refrigeration, a large percentage of grocery store inventory can be lost. Grocery retailers also utilize refrigerated (reefer) trucks to keep food at appropriate temperatures during product delivery or for additional storage during the holidays.
It is critical that retailers not only maintain reliable back-up power generators, but also that they ensure fuel availability.
