It’s nearly impossible not to smile when talking with Chemical Driver, Doral Edwards. His warm personality and positive attitude shine through immediately, and it’s clear that his success is driven by his passion for his role.

“I come from a family of professional truck drivers and they really encouraged me to take this career path,” Doral said. “I believe it was the right choice. I love the driving and am able to help someone new each day which has been very rewarding.”

Prior to entering the Trucking industry, Doral spent 24 years working as a Nuclear Medicine Technician, performing tests for diagnosis and medical research. In this role, Doral became very safety-oriented, understanding how critical it was towards protecting himself, his family and everyone he came in contact with.

“Coming from a background where I’ve dealt with radiation has really helped in my position at Atlas,” Doral said. “Working with chemicals like methanol and jet fuel, you need to do things right.”

Doral has been training team members out of Atlas’ Mobile, AL terminal since he was hired, teaching safe methods on loading, offloading and handling product. In his free time, he enjoys helping out at the trucking school he attended, teaching new drivers how to effectively perform their pre-trips.

“My advice to new drivers is always to take your time,” Doral said. “Don’t rush. If you don’t hurt yourself, you could potentially hurt someone else and it’s never going to be worth the few extra minutes you may have saved.”

When it comes to working at Atlas, Doral enjoys the competitive pay and his local route, which allows him to be home with his wife and two daughters at the end of each shift. He also enjoys making connections with all those he works with at the Mobile terminal, and the ability to interact with Atlas customers during his stops.
