ATLAS OIL HISTORY

Atlas Oil was founded in 1985. Our Founder and CEO, Sam Simon, then recently-immigrated to the USA, bought his first tanker truck and began delivering fuel throughout Metro Detroit. Sam’s instincts proved true when found immediate success. This started Atlas on a trajectory of growth and expansion that hasn’t let up- even today. Here are some of the key events that shaped the years in-between.

1985

Sam Simon buys his first truck. Atlas Oil is incorporated.

1986

Atlas opens its first bulk plant on Schafer Highway in Detroit.

1991

Atlas and Marathon Petroleum announce an official partnership.

1996

Atlas acquires B&J Oil Company and an Alpha Oil bulk plant.

1996

Atlas purchases its first terminal and opens its home office in Taylor, MI.

1998

Atlas starts a Lubricants business line, partnering with Chevron.

1999

Sam Simon is recognized as Entrepreneur of the Year by Ernst & Young.

2001

Atlas forms a partnership with Seaway Fuels Trucking in Dayton, Ohio.

2002

Atlas acquires B&R Oil Company, becoming a top Phillips 66 distributor.

2003

Atlas acquires 52 Clark gas stations and C-stores in MI and OH.

2005

Atlas acquires Fisher Fuels, a regional MI diesel and fuel oil distributor.

2007

Atlas and Sam Simon are recognized in national publications.

2007

The Foundation hosts its first annual Base Party at Selfridge Air Force Base.

2008

Atlas acquires 5 R&J gas stations, a regional MI distributor.

2008

The doors to Atlas’ Houston office officially open for business.

2009

Atlas’ sale of BP gas stations closes, forging a nationwide partnership.

2009

Atlas opens a transloading terminal in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

2011

Atlas’ EFS Division unveils its Generator Assurance Programs.

2013

Atlas begins transloading crude oil from refineries in Odessa and La Feria, Texas.

2015

Atlas adds Crude Hauling to its nationwide service portfolio.

2015

Atlas celebrates the milestone of delivering its one billionth gallon of fuel.

2016

Atlas combines its Retail Division with Empire Petroleum.

2018

Atlas debuts its proprietary technology, Fuel Automation Station (FAS).

2019

Atlas partners with CITGO to add Frac Lubricants to its service offerings.

2019

Atlas sets sail with its Marine Fueling Services division.

2019

Inc. 5000 names Atlas as one of the Top 5000 fastest growing companies.

2019

FAS debuts on the international stage in Argentina and Saudi Arabia.

2022

Atlas is featured on Fox Business’ Earth with John Holden.

2022

Atlas officially enters the CNG space with Atlas Gas Solutions.
